CLASSROOM RULES

 

1 Respect your peers, teachers, and any other adults on campus.
2 Be seated and be prepared for class with all appropriate materials (books, notebooks, tablets, writing utensils, etc.) when the tardy bell rings.
3 Remain seated and no talking unless given permission by the teacher.
4 Keep hands, feet, objects and negative comments to yourself.
5 Throwing objects of any kind will not be tolerated.
6 Eating, drinking, or chewing gum in class is allowed only with teacher permission.

 

CONSEQUENCES FOR BREAKING CLASSROOM RULES
 

1st time rule is broken: WARNING
2nd time rule is broken: BEHAVIORAL ESSAY AND DOCUMENTED PARENTAL CALL BY THE TEACHER
3rd time rule is broken: DISCIPLINE REFERRAL; CONFERENCE WITH ADMINISTRATOR AND STUDENT RESOURCE OFFICER
4th time rule is broken: DISCIPLINE REFERRAL; 1-3 DAYS ADJUSTMENT CENTER WITH MANDATORY PARENTAL CONFERENCE
5th time rule is broken: DISCIPLINE REFERRAL; 2-HOUR AFTERNOON DETENTION
6th time rule is broken: DISCIPLINE REFERRAL; 4-HOUR SATURDAY DETENTION WITH MANDATORY PARENTAL CONFERENCE
7th time rule is broken: DISCIPLINE REFERRAL; PARENT SHADOWING AND/OR IN SCHOOL SUSPENSION

The School-Wide Plan does not apply to severe infractions in the classroom. For severe infractions, the administration should be notified IMMEDIATELY to remove the student/students from the class.

 

EXAMPLES OF SEVERE INFRACTIONS THAT
WARRANT AN IMMEDIATE OFFICE REFERRAL

(Note: these infractions could result in the student being assigned to one of the following: adjustment center, after school detention, Saturday detention, in-school suspension, or possible expulsion from school.)

1 Profane/obscene language (verbal or written)
2 Fighting/loud arguing
3 Cursing faculty, school officials, or any other adult
4 Assault and battery on student and faculty
5 Threatening faculty
6 Threatening another student
7 Gambling
8 Stealing
9 Sexual harassment (verbal, written, or physical)
10 Horse playing / hand playing / play fighting
11 Running in the hall or cafeteria
12 Throwing food items or drinks in the cafeteria
13 Walking or running away from a teacher
14 Skipping class
15 Leaving campus without authorized permission
16 Possession of illegal substances/paraphenalia (cigarettes, lighters, matches, drugs of any sort)
17 Leaving out of class without authorized permission
18 Refusal to remove an illegal jacket or hat
19 Refusal to report to the office
20 Refusal to turn over illegal items (i.e. cell phones, cd players, etc.) to authority
21 Smoking
22 False charges (i.e. lying, forging the signature of faculty) against authority
23 Reckless behavior in the student parking lot and/or on the bus ramp
24 Refusal to follow directions of authority
25 Destroying school property (i.e. writing on walls, desks, etc.)
26 Illegal and/or no I.D.
27 Disrepectful attitude/tone with authority (i.e. “Get out of my face”, “Leave me alone”, “Go harass someone else”, etc.)

TARDY POLICY
 

Each student at Westgate High School will have a Tardy Card that will be kept with the administration. Teachers will accept the tardy student to class and document the tardy in their roll book. All tardies will be reported DAILY to the administration to be documented on the student’s Tardy Card.

7th time: IN-SCHOOL SUSPENSION

DRESS CODE / STUDENT I.D. POLICY

Each student at Westgate High School will have a Dress Code/Student I.D. Card that will be kept with the administration. Students that violate these policies should be directed to the office with an office referral. All infractions will be documented on the students’ Dress Code/Student I.D. Card.

AFTER-SCHOOL DETENTION
 

AFTER-SCHOOL DETENTION (A.S.D.) is detention outside of regular school hours held on Mondays and Thursdays from 2:40 p.m. to 4:40 p.m.

Students must be on time and sign in by 2:40 p.m. Any student arriving late will not be accepted for that day, but must complete the original time plus two additional hours at a later date. School uniforms must be worn.

Any student who does not show up for a two (2) hour assignment will be reassigned 4 hours of Saturday detention on a Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

Students must bring textbooks and material to study and are expected to work the entire time assigned.

Anyone violating this rule will be dismissed from AFTER-SCHOOL DETENTION (A.S.D.) and placed in IN-SCHOOL SUSPENSION (I.S.S.P.)

Any behavior that results in being sent out of A.S.D. will result in being sent to I.S.S.P.

Any student who skips the 4-Hour Saturday Detention will be assigned to I.S.S.P.

SATURDAY SCHOOL DETENTION
 

SATURDAY DETENTION is detention outside of regular school hours held on a designated Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

Students must sign in and be on time. Any student arriving late will not be allowed to enter the building, and subsequently will be assigned to In-School Suspension.

A mandatory parent/guardian conference is scheduled for all students assigned to Saturday Detention.

It is the parents’ responsibility to sign students in and pick them up.

STUDENTS MUST BE IN UNIFORM AT SATURDAY DETENTION.
